The 14 tooth sprocket is the smallest tooth count that will fit on a 16mm pattern hub. The protrusion on each side provides room for the chain links to pass without contacting the hub it’s mated to. The threaded holes allow the sprocket to be fastened to thru-hole components while the thru-holes allow it to be fastened to threaded components.
